SCHOOL CAPTAIN 2024
Julius Kathele
As I conclude my term as the School Captain of 2024, I reflect on the incredible journey of leadership, growth, and teamwork I’ve experienced here at Hospital Hill High School. My leadership journey began in Term 1 of 2022 when I was appointed as a Junior Dorm Prefect in Form 2. Through the guidance and support from the school’s administration and my peers, I was elevated to Deputy School Captain in July 2022, and later to School Captain in July 2023. This journey has been both challenging and rewarding, filled with valuable lessons that will stay with me for a lifetime.
I would like to extend my gratitude to the other captains who closely worked with me, whose dedication and collaboration were instrumental to our success as a leadership team. Special thanks to Cornelius Guyumba, who served as the Welfare Captain before being appointed as my Deputy. I also recognize Lenny Kariuki, our Academics Captain; George Edward, our DH Captain; Charles Mugane, our Sanitation Captain; and the House Captains—Kelvin Kariuki for Kifaru House, Ezra Anataka for Simba House, Clinton Otieno “Commander” for Ndovu House, and Jacob Munene for Nyati House. Their efforts and commitment to the school community exemplify true leadership.

To my successor, Ian Mwenja: My advice to you is to prioritize teamwork and respect for authority. Effective leadership is rooted in a collaborative approach that values every individual’s input and upholds humility in all actions. Respect for authority will guide you in making decisions that benefit the entire school community.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the school administration for their unwavering support, particularly our Senior Principal, Mr. Ken Bunyasi, along with his dedicated deputies, Mr. Crispo Owino and Ms. Scholastica Muange. Their leadership and commitment to our school’s values have inspired me greatly and have helped build a strong foundation for our accomplishments. I also wish to thank the entire student body for their cooperation and unity, which has been instrumental in achieving our collective goals.
My experience as School Captain has taught me the importance of resilience, empathy, and integrity in leadership. I am confident that the future of this school is bright, with students and leaders who will continue to uphold these values. I leave my post with a deep sense of pride and optimism, knowing that together we have made a positive impact on our school community.
Thank you, Hospital Hill High School, for this unforgettable journey.

School Captain 2024
Deputy School Captain 2024
Cornelius GuyumbaIt has been an honor and a privilege to serve Hospital Hill High School in various capacities since my appointment as an entertainment prefect in Term 2 of 2022. My leadership journey progressed as I was elevated to the role of Welfare Captain in July 2023, where I served until my appointment as Deputy School Captain in October 2024. I am proud to have contributed to the school's growth and am pleased to present this report summarizing my experience, achievements, and recommendations for continued improvement.
1. Entertainment and Student Welfare
In my role as Welfare Captain, student welfare became my primary focus. Understanding that students’ well-being goes beyond academic achievement, I worked to ensure a balanced approach to school life by promoting recreational activities and leisure events.
- Weekend Entertainment Program
We successfully implemented regular entertainment sessions every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, providing a much-needed break for students. These sessions included movie screenings, music, and games, creating a vibrant environment that contributed to overall morale and a healthy, positive school culture. This initiative was popular among students, and I encourage my successor, Felix Kiama, to continue this tradition and consider diversifying the activities based on student feedback. - Maintenance and Accessibility of School Instruments
As Welfare Captain, I was responsible for overseeing the proper handling, maintenance, and accessibility of school instruments and equipment, such as school band musical instruments, and audio-visual system (DSTV Deacorder). Ensuring that these were in good condition and readily available allowed students to engage fully in various co-curricular activities. To my successor, I recommend establishing a regular check and inventory routine for all equipment, ensuring everything remains in optimal condition for future students.
2. Deputy School Captain Responsibilities
Upon becoming Deputy School Captain, my role broadened significantly to include collaboration with administration, representing student interests, and maintaining discipline and unity across all forms. Some key accomplishments in this role include:
- Strengthening Communication Between Students and Administration
One of my goals was to bridge the communication gap between students and the administration through my school captain, creating an open and respectful dialogue. I encouraged students to raise concerns constructively and conveyed these matters to the administration to foster mutual understanding. This approach proved effective in resolving various issues, and I recommend that the future school deputy captain (Luis Figo) continues prioritizing this aspect to ensure a collaborative atmosphere. - Promoting Unity and Discipline
I strive to uphold the values of discipline and respect across all grades, especially in times of conflict. By encouraging peer-led initiatives and peer-support groups, I sought to create an environment where students felt responsible for one another. I urge the incoming leadership to remain vigilant in maintaining these values, as they are foundational to a supportive school culture.
3. Advice to My Successor, Felix Kiama
To Felix Kiama, as the incoming Welfare Captain, I encourage you to prioritize student welfare and always uphold the values of fairness, integrity, and empathy. Strive to balance your responsibilities with an open mind and a compassionate heart. Work closely with the administration to address students’ concerns and continue building on the initiatives we have developed together.
- Emphasize Welfare and Engagement
Welfare is at the core of every student's experience. I encourage you to explore new ways to engage students, particularly through entertainment and co-curricular activities, which provide essential relief and personal growth opportunities.
Conclusion
My time as Deputy School Captain has been a fulfilling journey of growth and service, and I am grateful for the trust placed in me. I extend my sincere appreciation to the administration, the prefect body, and all students for their support.
Thank you.
