School Expansion and Growth
Since 2017, Hospital Hill High School has experienced remarkable expansion. As part of the national education reforms and the gradual phasing out of the 8-4-4 system, the institution has transitioned to Hospital Hill Senior School in line with the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework. Currently, the school has five streams in Form Four and six streams in Form Three, serving a growing and diverse learner population. Despite this expansion, the school has continued to uphold high academic standards, a clear indication of effective administration and the dedication of the teaching staff.

Teaching Faculty and Staff
The school has a total of 45 teachers, comprising a healthy mix of experienced educators and enthusiastic new entrants to the profession. This balanced faculty has played a critical role in supporting both academic instruction and the principles of CBE, which emphasise skills development, values, and learner-centred approaches. Their commitment to excellence and learner welfare is evident in improved KCSE outcomes and overall school performance as we prepare for full CBE implementation.

Infrastructure and Resources
To support the growing learner population and the demands of CBE, the school has invested in key infrastructure projects, including new dormitories, renovated classrooms, and expanded laboratory facilities. These developments have enhanced safety, comfort, and the quality of the learning environment, while also laying a strong foundation for practical, skills-based learning.

Discipline and Learner Development
The school has developed its own comprehensive code of conduct to guide individual learner behaviour and interpersonal relationships among learners, staff, the school community, and other stakeholders. Emphasis is placed on self-discipline, responsibility, and independence, aligning closely with CBE values. Learners are trained to operate with minimal supervision, supported by structured leadership training and mentorship programmes throughout the year.

The Deputy Principal’s office strongly upholds the belief that discipline is most effective when addressed collaboratively by teachers and parents. Parents and guardians are therefore frequently engaged to resolve cases of indiscipline that may hinder academic progress and harmonious coexistence. This approach is particularly important where learners demonstrate limited self-drive and self-sacrifice.

Learners are continually reminded that boarding school life requires self-denial and focus on a singular goal—performance and holistic development. While the school may not boast of exemplary results in the recent past, we remain optimistic and committed to delivering a brighter future. As Nelson Mandela once said, “Everyone can rise above their circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do.” Our aspiration is to nurture that dedication and commitment, making this institution a source of pride for every parent.

CBE Transition and Pathways
In alignment with national reforms, Hospital Hill Senior School is gradually implementing the Competency-Based Education system as the 8-4-4 curriculum is phased out. The school is preparing to offer the three CBE pathways, namely:

1. Arts and Sports,

2. Social Sciences, and

3. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

These pathways will enable learners to pursue their talents, interests, and abilities, ensuring a more relevant, flexible, and future-oriented education.

Challenges and Opportunities
The increased learner population continues to exert pressure on existing resources, necessitating the strategic deployment of classrooms and teaching staff. Managing discipline within a larger school community has also become more complex, calling for enhanced support systems and closer stakeholder collaboration.
Nonetheless, significant opportunities exist, particularly in the integration of technology in teaching and learning, the expansion of facilities, and the introduction of additional streams to meet rising enrolment demand under CBE.

Gratitude
I sincerely appreciate all teachers, non-teaching staff, and most notably the Principal, Mr. Ken Bunyasi, for his exemplary leadership and stewardship. I also thank the Almighty God for His abundant blessings upon this school community. Special appreciation goes to the Board of Management, the Parents’ Association, sponsors, and our learners for turning the founders’ vision into reality. Together, we aspire and inspire.

Conclusion
The growth and transformation of Hospital Hill Senior School since 2017 are commendable. It is my honour, as Deputy Principal – Administration, to contribute to this journey of progress and transition to CBE. I look forward to continued collaboration with all stakeholders as we address challenges and seize emerging opportunities. May the Almighty continue to guide and propel our school to greater heights.
